ⁿᵒᵗBorges - 𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘣. (V47)

ⁿᵒᵗBorges is the most recent of the many and varied pseudonyms used by Callie Rose Petal, a musician/artist/painter/programmer/savant based in Glasgow. With this project she aims to excavate and investigate nothing less than the continuous experience of her {ex|in}ternal life, channelling all sensory experience into a myriad of musical, visual, digital and ephemeral channels, all paradoxically standing apart whilst being deeply woven together. The two hour, double cassette release ‘𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘣.’ is a mere instalment, fully self-contained as well as a chapter in a larger, self-reflexive narrative, one that is being constantly, incessantly written. The project formally breaches aesthetic distance via unconventional mediums, such as kayfabe 'research papers'[1], GitHub version control[2] and post captions, many of which remain oblique.

Encompassing unruly sound collage and musique concrète, tape manipulation, scathing noise, torch song balladry, dense and enveloping drone, liturgical ambient and much more, ‘𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘣.’ is maximalist in its breakage of form and its sentiment; a swirling vortex of tumultuous discord and flagrant, rapturous emotion that cleaves itself open and allows the incandescence and volatility of its intention to spill out--and fully overwhelm--the listener. Even in its muted moments, the work still crackles with a frenetic energy and propulsion: sounds and structures being simultaneously constructed and abolished, with patterns, motifs, callbacks and overtures emerging patternsʞɔɐqʅʅɐɔ from the dissonance. With years ofarchivismcontractedᵗᵒᵐᵒᵐᵉⁿᵗˢᵗʰᵉᵛᶦᵒˡᵃᵗᶦᵒⁿᵒᶠᵗᶦᵐᵉ██, c██ˢʰᶦᵖ, {rev|ᶜᵒⁿᶜ}eals█ ˢʸᵐᵇᵒˡ ᵗʰʳᵒᵘᵍʰ ᵃᵇˢᵉⁿᶜᵉ██, enacting its ᶜᶦᵖʰᵉʳˢ ᶦⁿ ᶦᵗˢ ᵛᵉʳʸ ᵈᵉˡᶦᵛᵉʳʸ.

Through extreme rigour and inquiry Callie has created a truly breathtaking work with ‘𝘭𝘢𝘮𝘣.’. Symphonic in scope and monumental in execution, it is a staggering example of pure creativity completely untethered from restriction[3], reaching heights of rapturous, ferocious and transcendental sublimity.
