Caustic Bliss - Anthracite (V29)

£5.00

'Anthracite' is the debut EP by Scottish duo Caustic Bliss. In remembrance of the Michael Colliery pit disaster, East Wemyss, Fife.

"With both members originating from mining towns, Caustic Bliss have a close affinity with the theme driving their debut EP - the mining trade and its decay in Scotland. Utilising a combination of natural and man-made sounds, the EP reflects on both the harsh conditions experienced by miners, working days without seeing sunlight, paired with the desecration of the land through boring deep into the earth's crust and the cycle in which the same wound is later reclaimed by nature.

"The Michael Colliery Disaster of 1967 sadly chimes with this theme - miners reported it resembling the jaws of hell with fire breathing from the pit shaft, and unfortunately, it claimed the lives of nine men, three of whom were swallowed by the mine and their bodies, never recovered. The story has a horribly classical tone - like Orpheus looking back into the Underworld. The pit was never reopened, the community withered, and nature overtook the manmade structure which once hollowed the earth."
