Heejin Jang - Dream Signal (V28)
'Dream Signal' is an astonishing, stately amalgam of forceful abrasion, meticulous abstraction and cavernous weight. Heejin Jang has stood out as one of South Korea's most assured and exploratory sonic scrutinizers, as well as one of the most prolific; with almost a decade of produced work to her name and having released two huge, breathtaking albums last year ('Consistency' and 'Me & The Glass Birds' on Doom Trip), Heejin Jang has crafted a truly compelling and singular approach. There is a deftness and exacting precision to the textures, arrangements and at times ferocious auditory incursions on 'Dream Signal', making the results all the more arresting and affecting.
"드림 시그널은 2020년 8월 7일 닻올림에서 열린 라이브 공연 중 7개의 발췌곡으로 구성되어 있다. 일곱개의 트랙은 무의식에 새겨진 도시의 풍경을 그려내는 전자 소음들의 구름을 제시한다. 필드 레코딩의 증폭과 반복은 청중들이 앉아있는 곳을 지우고, 현실을 닮았지만 어쩐지 기괴한 꿈의 입구로 그들을 안내한다. 끓어오르는 기후의 암시와 함께, 끊임없이 변화하는 공간의 울림은 청중의 시각적 상상력이 현실과 무의식의 안과 밖을 넘나들게끔 유도한다. 일곱개의 꿈 속에서 소리들은 쫓기거나, 떨어지고, 울부짖으며 도망가고, 하늘을 날거나 물 속에 잠긴다. 타임 스트레칭을 이용한 소음들의 왜곡은 느려진 팔과 다리의 움직임, 발걸음을 옮길 때마다 바뀌는 풍경, 누구도 이해할 수 없는 언어를 말하는 목소리가 된다. 예상치 못한 순간마다 울리는 불규칙한 주파수와 비트들은 청중의 악몽을 깨우는 알람이 되거나, 또 다른 깊숙한 꿈의 입구로 안내하는 신호가 된다."
"Dream Signal consists of seven excerpts from the live performance held at Dotolim, on August 7th, 2020. The seven tracks present a cloud of electronic noises that depict the urban landscape engraved on the unconscious. The amplification and repetition of field recordings erase the place where the audience is sitting then guides them into the entrance to a somehow bizarre dream that resembles reality. Along with the illusion of boiling climate, the ever-changing resonance of the space induces the audience's visual imagination to transcend the reality and the unconscious inside out. In the seven dreams, sounds are chased, fall, cry and run away, fly in the sky, or drown in water. Using time stretching, the distortion of noises turns into a slow movement of the arms and legs, a landscape that shifts with each step, and a voice speaking a language that no one can understand. Irregular frequencies and beats that sound at every unexpected moment become an alarm that awakens the audience's nightmare or a signal that leads you to another deep dream."
