MISERY//PLEASURE - PSYCHOLOGY OF SICKNESS (V57)

Misery//Pleasure follows up their debut ‘Trapped In Life’ on the excellent Brachliegen Tapes with ‘Psychology Of Sickness’, a release that explores both the literal and psychological toll of severe illness plus the existential dread of repeated hospital confinement and physical violations in the name of healing and recovery.

This concept is presented through a work that grinds and shudders with a hollowed out, blunted intent. The roiling and bubbling noise soundscapes that Misery//Pleasure creates feels muted and smothered, its edges dulled and receded, forming a warped apparition of its own purpose. This buckled, haunted and sickly foundation of scraping, crumbling and subsumed textures communicates expertly a sense of helplessness, despondence and resignation.

‘Psychology Of Sickness’ is a pean to the endless, tiring moil that persistent illness perpetuates and how the incessant grasping for recovery and stability can in turn paradoxically erode the necessary perseverance required from within.
