Bristol’s Prior follows up excellent releases on labels like Eggy Tapes, Basement Corner Emissions and Black Mould Sound Lab with ‘Resurrection And Immortality For All’, a voluminous work of shifting, mutating tone and texture.

‘Resurrection…’ is a meditation on the concepts and theories of Russian Cosmism, synthesising its archaic, imaginative proclamations into a 30 minute piece that acts as both reference and interpretation. It seeks to summon the sensation of a cosmist reality as well as place it within its historical setting, born of a time when the meticulously scientific, the artistically pioneering and the devotedly spiritual could somehow each be harnessed to create a unified socio-political philosophy.

The results of which are some the most expansive and enveloping work Prior has created thus far. ‘Resurrection..’ deftly walks a tightrope, it holds the liturgical, philosophical and technological elements like constantly changing counter-weights, all the while gliding forward on a foundation of disquieting, throbbing drone, undulating, gloopy rhythmic palpitations and scratchy, corroded sheets of glacial noise. Nothing is static, the elements perpetually shift and resist each other like abstract, paranormal musique concrète, yet it holds together blissfully, albeit tentatively, before it inevitably mutates again into another beautiful chimerical form.
