smr.tni - 'unreasonable' (V37)

‘unreasonable’ is the latest (modestly/deceptively titled) offering of malevolent noise and abhorrent atmospherics by Dortmund-based horror-electronics artist smr.tni, following their incredible releases on Himukalt’s Ek Verlag, Pain Chain’s Mutual Aid and their own Silken Heart imprint. It continues their exploration into the basest, foundational forms of the human experience by employing inscrutable blackened drone, numbing repetition and sheets of scathing, corrupted noise.

‘unreasonable’ luxuriates in the weight of its sadistic provocation; tracks act more like auditory exercises in constriction, brutally compressing the listener through it’s excruciatingly dense neural slow-build and ruthlessly cursed litanies. Even the scarce moments of tentative calm are as ruthless as when ‘unreasonable’ is at its most ferocious; like a cat toying with its prey, it continues to threaten rather than subdue.

In a relatively short time smr.tni has refined and cultivated a terrifyingly ominous and foreboding sound and style, each successive release being an exercise in boiling down the bones of their method. On 'unreasonable' smr.tni is using only the most stark, essential elements to communicate their intentions, resulting in a truly staggering, powerful and nefarious instalment of their work.
